Breaking the Sound Barrier

To catch up, I have just gotten over an intestinal illness (not a virus) and, as is so often the case, the cure was nearly as bad or worse than the disease. The meds I needed made me non-functional for nearly a week. Yes, it worked, my guts are better, but I lost time, energy and enjoyment of doing many of the things I like–like eating. Today is the first day in about a week that I have had a meal. But enough kvetching. I am grateful to have treatment at all and am visiting my doctors to find out why I get these recurrent episodes considering my healthy, Mediterranean-style diet and regular exercise.

Moving on, I have been hoping to add some audio to this site. After all, it is Rebecca's Voice and it should be heard! I write segments for a local radio station on medical issues, short (5-minute) essays on an issue, such as diet, bone health, vaccines, the common cold, depression, etc. So far there are 27 segments with more on the way. I commend you to go to the archives of KXRW FM or XRAY.FM where these are aired to look them up if you'd like. I encourage you going to KXRW 99.9 for local Vancouver WA news and creative shows featuring local artists, music, businesses and other wide-ranging content. KXRW is broadcast from XRAY.FM's tower in Portland OR; their programming is just as fascinating.

My segments are titled Your HealthKit. The goal is to provide useful information about a given topic, break up some possible medical myths along the way and promote good health and a good relationship with a trained health professional, like your Family Doctor (like me!)

Here is brief one-minute sample on skin and the sun. Can't get a whole lot of info in during one minute, which is why I turn to five minutes. There may be a sweet spot of 3 or so minutes in there, but 5 it is for now. As for this brief one, I'd love to know what you think.

Next HealthKit topic is the gut biome. Your ideas welcome. And do check out the archives noted above for one of the current 27 topics there.

Cheers!
